Portland Marathon Expo

I spent most of the weekend at the Portland Marathon Expo working with Fitletic, an awesome athletic apparel company that makes the best running and hydration belts. I now know all about their products and I’m a huge fan. They even have toggles on the belt for race bibs so you don’t have to worry about pins.  They were such a hit at the Expo! We stayed quite busy over 2 days, but it was lots of fun! I always enjoy free samples and seeing new products out on the market that are at expos, and this was no different.

Runners are such fascinating people and it was so fun to talk to many of them and learn about their routines for long run and hydration, and how their training has been for the marathon. It’s almost essential to have a belt of some sort for those long runs to hold gels, gus, nutrition, water bottles, etc.

After a long two days of work, I needed ice cream, so I finally hit up the spot that’s been on my bucket list since Day 1: Salt N Straw. At 9pm on a Saturday night, I waited about 25 minutes in line (remember how I mentioned that people wait in lines here like it’s no big deal?) But this one was worth it. When you get close to the front, a worker comes up to you and asks if they can bring you any flavors to try. They let you sample as many as you want. The customer service is top-notch. I tried the Strawberry Honey Balsamic with black pepper, the Honey Lavender, the Chocolate Gooey Brownie, Cinnamon Snickerdoodle, Coconut Strawberry Rhubarb Pie, Candy Corn, and the Great Candycopia.

I was especially impressed by the perfect flavor combinations of the strawberry balsamic and honey lavender. All the ice cream was soooo creamy, mmmm. I eventually settled on a scoop of Sea Salt with Caramel ribbons and a scoop of Cinnamon Snickerdoodles in their homemade waffle cones, which was so good and hit the spot. Salt and Straw, I’ll definitely be back.
