Why We Love 20 Minute Honey Garlic Shrimp and Broccoli

  • 20 minutes – Did I mention it’s ready in only 20 minutes? A quick honey garlic shrimp and broccoli dish is a healthy dinner recipe for all. Life saver for a busy family and one of my favorite dinner ideas for Thursday night.
  • Flavorful – Honey garlic shrimp with broccoli is SO easy to eat and enjoy as a quick dinner with tons of flavor. The honey-ginger garlic marinade complements everything. It’s one of my favorite healthy shrimp and broccoli recipes!
  • Kid friendly – My kids love a shrimp, rice and broccoli recipe. It almost resembles a fried rice to them, which is how I often position it. It doesn’t matter what you call it – honey shrimp sounds sweet and tasty to a kid, though!
  • Great way to enjoy seafood – While shrimp is not the richest source of EPA and DHA, it still is very nutritious and full of micronutrients, like iron, zinc, copper, B vitamins, selenium, choline and more. Plus, shrimp & broccoli just go together so well.
  • Easy clean up – This is the main reason I love sheet pan shrimp recipes – easy clean up! If you use frozen shrimp (which I do because it’s convenient), there’s very little prep either. It’s my favorite method of easy cheap meal prep!
  • Can use frozen veggies – Frozen veggies are abundant in our freezer. They are so affordable and last a while, and I’m always looking for ways to spice them up. I used a bag of defrosted frozen veggies for this recipe, but you could also use fresh. And mix up the different veggies to what you like!
  • Pair with pasta, rice, rice noodles, bread, etc. – Choose your favorite grain! I personally love a honey garlic shrimp and rice dish, but there are several delicious options to choose from.

After tweaking this garlic shrimp and broccoli recipe a few times and determining it’s the best shrimp marinade ever, we were set with meals for a few nights.

Ingredients for Honey Ginger Shrimp

  • thawed, deveined shrimp – I love Butcher Box‘s shrimp and it’s always in our fridge. But, any frozen shrimp or fresh shrimp from your grocery store will do.
  • broccoli – Fresh broccoli or frozen broccoli, or any combination of frozen vegetables
  • sesame seeds
  • honey
  • ginger
  • garlic – fresh garlic or minced
  • fresh basil or cilantro (optional)

The sheet pan shrimp and veggies part is super easy. And making the honey ginger shrimp takes minutes, so don’t let that intimidate you!

I did not use corn starch, but you could use it to coat the shrimp if you want it a bit crispier. Not necessary though, in my opinion.

Red Shrimp in clear glass bowl

To make the simple honey garlic shrimp marinade, you’ll need:

Ginger and garlic together work really well, plus they’re both anti-inflammatory! I also really happen to love soy sauce and the flavor it imparts on mixed dishes.

It’s one of those sauces we always have on hand (pantry staples), where a little goes a long way for a flavorful one pan garlicky shrimp and broccoli.

It’s almost like a honey shrimp stir fry, except we’re cooking it on a sheet pan to make things easier.

How to Make Sheet Pan Shrimp and Broccoli

To make this sheet pan honey garlic shrimp with broccoli, set your timer. I’m telling you – it’s ready in 20 minutes!

I like to place my shrimp in a bowl of cold water for a few minutes to just rinse everything off.

Then, preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Then, whisk honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic and lemon juice in a small bowl to make the honey garlic marinade.

Then, add the shrimp to the bowl and let marinate. You could also transfer to a large ziplock bag and shake everything together.

Spread the veggies in a single layer on one end of a baking sheet, seasoning with salt and pepper. Bake for 12 minutes.

Then, we’ll add these cooked veggies to the honey garlic glaze bowl with shrimp and arrange everything back on the baking sheet.

The cook time is 8-10 more minutes, or until shrimp are firm and cooked through.

Is Shrimp Healthy?

Because we’re going to have our third newborn soon, we’re focusing on quick, easy and minimal meals and this is easy shrimp recipe is among my favorite easy freezer meal for moms.

I feel like shrimp is one of those underrated foods. It’s so good and SO EASY to cook with, but people rarely buy it. I wonder why that is?

  • Shrimp is a great, nutrient-dense seafood option. Shrimp is high in selenium, which is a natural antioxidant in the body.
  • Just four ounces of shrimp provides about 325 -375 milligrams of omega-3 fatty acids, including about 50% EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and 50% DHA (docosahexaenoic acid).
  • These nutrients are great for pregnancy because they contribute to the baby’s brain health (more about pregnancy nutrition here).

I know this sheet pan shrimp and broccoli will become a weeknight favorite for you, like it has for us. I highly suggest pairing the shrimp and veggies with a grain of some sort.

Mainly because grains can be bland on their own (why we dress up this lemon herb cheesy quinoa), but when you cover them with a flavor combination like this, your taste buds come alive.

White rice, brown rice, farro, barley, pasta, orzo, etc. The opportunities are endless!

How to Store This Shrimp and Broccoli Recipe

This easy garlic honey shrimp and broccoli dish will stay fresh up to 3 days in the fridge if stored in an airtight container.

To freeze for later, let it cool completely and place in a freezer-friendly ziplock bag or container for up to 3 months.

20 Minute Honey Garlic Shrimp and Veggies

This 20 minute honey garlic shrimp and broccoli sheet pan meal is the perfect quick and easy meal for those busy nights. With minimal prep and clean up, it's ready quickly and served with a delicious honey ginger shrimp sauce.

Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 20 minutes
Total Time 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, thawed
  • 1-2 bags frozen vegetables, thawed (I used stir fry mixtures)
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds (optional)
  • 2 tbsp fresh basil, chopped, to top

Honey Garlic Shrimp Marinade

  • 4 tbsp unfiltered honey
  • 3 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp ginger, ground
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice, to taste
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. In a medium size bowl, whisk honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper. Add shrimp to bowl and let marinate.
  3. Spread veggies in a single layer on one end of baking sheet, seasoning with salt and pepper. Bake for 12 minutes.
  4. Add cooked veggies to bowl with sauce and shrimp and mix well.
  5. Arrange shrimp and veggies on baking sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until shrimp are firm and cooked through. I like to broil mine for two additional minutes after.
  6. Garnish with sesame seeds and basil, if desired.

Notes

The sheet pan may be liquidy after taking it out of the oven. That’s okay. Let it cool and dump some of the liquid, or save it and reuse it as a sauce to top.
