Since my blog highlights baby led weaning and toddler foods, I’m a huge fan of nutritious recipes and introducing babies and kids to new flavors.
As a Registered Dietitian, I find so much joy in watching babies and toddlers eat. The faces they make, the things they say, how they explore their food, etc. It’s just my favorite.
I love that with starting solids, babies can learn to handle different textures and flavors. I use a combined approach to baby led weaning, and will offer solids, like baby led weaning meatballs, and some fruit purees, like blueberry puree or pureed kiwi, and even parsnip puree.
Actually, this cherry puree recipe could be combined with any of those.
When serving purees, I pre-load the ezpz spoon for baby so he/she can practice self-feeding. That is the basis of baby led weaning – letting babies learn to self-feed and giving them autonomy.
We can still do that with pureed textures. Sometimes I’ll even serve some puree on an ezpz plate, paired with some toast fingers or even mixed into baby oatmeal.
If you’re new here, I always recommend the ezpz products! They are developed with pediatric and feeding experts, and are perfect for little eaters and serving a fruit puree.
This cherry puree recipe is ready in minutes and is a great fruit puree for baby!

Benefits of Cherries for Babies
Cherries are a great fruit to introduce to babies! You can cut it into small pieces, mix into oatmeal or yogurt, blend into a smoothie, or even make this easy cherry puree.
Here are a few nutrition standouts.
- Antioxidants – Cherries are high in antioxidants (thanks to their dark hues of the skin), which can help with reducing inflammation in the body.
- Vitamin C – Vitamin C is important for immune health and skin health. Vitamin C can also help with iron absorption, a nutrient that is so important for growth and development.
- Fiber – Fiber can help with digestion, and when starting solids, babies’ digestion can be all over the place!
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make this cherry berry puree.

- cherries – fresh or frozen
- berries – Your choice, fresh or frozen. I used blueberries and strawberries (I recommend strawberries if you want a lighter color)
- banana – fresh or frozen. Riper bananas will add natural sweetness.
- Flax seeds – Flax seeds add healthy fats, which are so important for babies’ brains. They also add fiber, protein and more.
- liquid of choice – Breastmilk, formula, milk, water, etc. I usually use water, but if you have pumped or frozen breastmilk, that’s a great way to add more nutrition!
A few key notes…
Dairy free– This cherry puree for baby will be dairy-free if you use water, breastmilk or a dairy-free formula.
Introducing allergens – Purees can be a great method to introduce allergens to your baby. You could blend in a tsp of yogurt, peanut butter, almond butter, etc. to introduce dairy, peanuts or tree nuts.
How to Make Cherry Puree for Baby
You can make this cherry puree for baby in 2 minutes, which is why it’s a great baby recipe or snack!

What I love most about this cherry puree recipe is that it’s not just for babies! It’s refreshing and delicious for all.
You can even freeze the leftovers in your favorite popsicle molds for your baby and/or toddler!

Tips for Success and Storage
Here are some tips that I recommend for the best outcome:
- If you want to repurpose this cherry puree, transfer it to popsicle molds to turn it into a refreshing popsicle treat! These molds are great for babies, and I love these fun shapes for toddlers.
- If using frozen fruits, you may need to add a bit more water.
- If you want a lighter color for your cherry puree, make sure to add some strawberries to the puree mixture.
- Use sour cherries or sweet cherries to add a bit more personalization to the flavor.
- To store, refrigerate for up to 3 days, or freeze as smoothie ice cubes or into popsicle molds.
