If you’re looking for a cozy fall dessert that’s both delicious and wholesome, this apple crumble with almond flour is your perfect choice.
Made with baked apples and a golden, buttery topping, this almond flour apple crumble has all the comfort of a classic apple crisp but with a gluten-free twist.
We’ve tested this gluten-free apple crisp over and over to get a soft inside and that crispy crumble topping you know and love.
Adding quinoa to the apple crumble took some testing! But, I’m happy to report that we’ve perfected it so you can easily make this apple crumble with almond flour and oats in your own kitchen, without any complicated steps or fancy equipment.

While our fall mornings have revolved around pumpkin apple baked oats or apple cottage cheese overnight oats, our nights and weekends focus on this unique, delicious gluten free apple crumble topping.
Unlike traditional crisps made with wheat flour, this gluten free apple crumble topping is naturally grain-free and a great option for anyone with dietary restrictions.
Why You’ll Love This Almond Flour Apple Crumble
- Delicious texture – This apple crumble with almond flour is a mix between crumble and crisp. Few healthy apple crisp recipes use quinoa in their crust/crumble, and the quinoa makes this gluten-free healthy apple crumble so unique!
- Less sugar – We’ve used maple syrup for sweetness, but in just a small amount. This easy apple crisp with almond flour and oats is a healthier, lower-sugar apple crumble option. Pair with greek yogurt to add more protein and make it a filling meal.
- High in fiber – We’ve got fiber from quinoa, oats and almond flour here, plus the apples themselves. This is a super recipe for fiber and keeping you full.
- Ready in under an hour – Sometimes delicious desserts can take time to prep and bake, but this almond flour apple crumble is ready in about 50 minutes. And, it even makes a great meal prep recipe because you can have leftovers for breakfast or a snack the next day (I prefer to pair with yogurt if doing so).

Here’s what you need for this almond flour crumble recipe.
- Cooked quinoa – They add a nice fluffy, yet crispy, texture to the apple crumble while still remaining gluten free. Here’s the best way to cook quinoa.
- Oats – Make sure to use certified gluten-free oats
- Almond Flour – A great gluten-free flour that is high in protein, fiber and healthy fats! Although almond meal is slightly different, it will work for this recipe. Since this recipe was specifically tested to be gluten-free, I would not recommend using all-purpose or whole wheat flour.
- Apples – You can use any variety for this recipe. I prefer sweet apples, like gala, pink lady or honeycrisp apples.
- Egg – An important binder!
- Almond Milk – Almond milk is a dairy-free option, but you could also use soy milk, cashew milk, dairy milk, etc.
- Coconut Oil
- Maple Syrup – Adds to the fall flavor and adds the perfect amount of sweetness. You could also use white sugar or coconut sugar.
I think this quinoa apple crisp recipe is perfect for any time of year, especially with a cold scoop of (dairy-free) vanilla ice cream or even greek yogurt!

How To Make An Apple Crumble with Almond Flour
First, chop your apples and mix all of your main ingredients for this almond flour apple crisp in a large bowl. Omit one apple and a tablespoon of oats to make the gluten-free apple crumble topping.
Then, pour the batter in a cast iron skillet or pie bowl and toss in the oven for 45-50 minutes, or until it starts to turn golden brown.
Hot Recipe Tip
If using a cast iron skillet, aim for 9-10 inches, which is the perfect size I found when testing! This pie dish works beautifully too!
Enjoy the glorious smells that will enter your kitchen.
Whether you’re entertaining guests, baking for the holidays, or just want a simple dessert on a chilly evening, this almond flour apple crumble is an easy way to enjoy the flavors of fall in a healthier, gluten-free way.

Ahhhh cannot wait to try this!!! Yesterday (Thanksgiving), I was thinking that I should have made and brought an apple cake to my grandma’s house! Next year!!
Wow! This is one of my favorite kinds of desserts too. I love Dutch Apple Pie, so I think we would love this one too!

This looks so good! I actually don’t usually like pie all that much because I just feel like it is a sugar overload. This looks like it would be perfect for a dessert or for any time of day!
Some can be so loaded with sugar they give me a stomach ache! Homemade ones are my favorite since i can control it.
Oh maannnnnnn. I am making this for breakfast. Dessert too, but definitely breakfast. Look at those ingredients!!
We’ve just been adding it to every meal!
This looks amaaazing! I love anything with apple but I really love pumpkin baked goods too. Pies? I’m actually not overly fussed by either but Jesse LOVES pumpkin pie!
