As you probably know, we eat a lot of sweetpotatoes in our house. If you need proof, here are some of our favorite unique sweetpotato recipes.
They are just so versatile. Adding them to pasta or making sweetpotato nachos are some of our favorite ways to infuse nutrition.
And in an effort to reduce food waste, I decided to spiralize our sweetpotatoes to make this gluten-free sweetpotato pasta recipe.
We often modify our favorite pasta recipes, and adding sweetpotatoes was a no-brainer because they are such a great component in any family meal for toddlers.

We’ve made pasta with sweetpotato sauce before, but now having an actual sweetpotato sauce for sweetpotato pasta is even better.
I love the plant based protein in this recipe, thanks to the black beans. But you could also add some lentil veggie meatballs.
This pasta recipe is high in fiber and antioxidants, too, and works well for kids and babies.
Sweetpotatoes for the family
Sweetpotatoes are great for all age-groups. As a dietitian, I always recommend sweet potatoes for baby led weaning. They are also great for the picky toddler years, because they are naturally sweet. There are so many wonderful sweet potato recipes for toddlers
Sweetpotato noodles have the firmness of traditional pasta, so their consistency is similar. Since sweetpotatoes are naturally sweet, they have a sweeter, lighter taste than pasta.
While our spaghetti squash with pumpkin sauce noodles are soft, sweetpotato zoodles are firmer, which is why this is one of our favorite sweetpotato pasta recipes.
Gather Your Ingredients
To make these sweetpotato pasta noodles, you’ll need:
- spiralizer
- sweetpotatoes
- olive oil
- garlic
- onion
- black beans
- mozzarella cheese
- salt, pepper, italian seasoning, paprika
You can add any additional toppings you’d like, from your choice of meat to even crunchy nuts and seeds!

Don’t forget the delicious sweetpotato pasta sauce!
This simple 3 ingredient sauce for your sweetpotato zoodles mixes sweetpotatoes with a little milk and tomato sauce to upgrade your typical pasta sauce with flavor and nutrients.

How to Spiralize A Sweetpotato into Zoodles
Spiralizing a sweetpotato isn’t difficult if you have the right equipment. I used this spiralizer and it worked great.
I liked that it gives you different options for the final product, depending on the same, width and texture you’re going for.
Quick Tip
Make sure to peel your sweetpotato before placing it in the spiralizer. If it’s a big sweetpotato, I also recommend cutting it in half and doing two rounds of the spiralizer.
Then, you’ll push down firmly with the flat end on the level surface on the spiralizer, and churn the top handle as the spiralized zoodles come out of the bottom.

How to Make Sweetpotato Spaghetti
After spiralizing your sweet potato, saute your diced onion with some olive oil.

Then, add your sweetpotato zoodles and cook for 8-10 minutes, until they have softened and are cooked.
Lastly, you’ll add the spices and black beans, before topping with cheese (or add the meat/your choice of protein).

Play Around with Different Cheeses
You can add as much or as little cheese as you’d like, and you can definitely use vegan, cashew-based or a plant-based cheese as well.
Personally, I like my sweet potato pasta noodles to be very cheesy, like a good sweetpotato mac and cheese or the easy one-pot tiktok pasta with goat cheese.
Sometimes we’ll even combine these sweetpotato zoodles with regular pasta to mix things up and get a mix of flavor and nutrition!

To make your sweetpotato pasta sauce recipe, just microwave your sweetpotato and let it cool.
Then, remove the inside flesh (after it cools), and combine in a bowl with milk and pasta sauce and blend!
I like to use my immersion blender for a quicker result.
And there you have it – the easiest sauce for sweetpotato pasta. It can also work with this hidden veggie mac anc cheese.
