I’m a huge fan of a smoothie with greek yogurt (as evidenced by many of my favorite smoothie recipes), but a smoothie with cottage cheese is newer to me.
During my first trimester, I didn’t have much of an appetite, but still needed quality protein and nutrition. And cottage cheese turned into that easy solution!
I’ve always preferred yogurt to cottage cheese, but having given cottage cheese a proper shot more recently, it does have a slight protein edge, which I was happy about.
So, this cottage cheese smoothie (more like a healthy cottage cheese milkshake) was born, and it’s been on repeat ever since. Whether you prefer it more like a smoothie or milkshake, there’s no right or wrong.

I will say, I much prefer a frozen banana if you like a thicker smoothie or making it taste more like a milkshake
I’ve tried added more sweetener when testing to make it more milkshake-like, with cookie crumbles or graham crumbles, and it’s so delicious and hard to put down.
I know you’re going to love this banana cottage cheese recipe – pair with a banana cottage cheese muffin!

Look At Our Simple Ingredients
Nothing fancy needed! And super easy to swap out or add in ingredients.
- cottage cheese
- banana – I prefer frozen. If you don’t like banana, swap in strawberries, blueberries, mango, etc!
- milk
- vanilla or almond extract
- cinnamon
- honey, optional – When I want this cottage cheese smoothie to taste more like a milkshake, I add the honey!

Optional favorites – Sometimes I like to add protein powder, and occasionally, I’ll add chia seeds or hemp seeds in for some extra nutrition, too! Something can be really good for you and taste indulgent, too!
This cottage cheese smoothie is adaptable, and can be made to YOUR liking.
How to Make this Cottage Cheese Milkshake Smoothie
I go back and forth calling it a cottage cheese milkshake or smoothie, because it can be either or, depending on how you like it!

Simply mix everything together in your blender and blend. Once blended, sometimes I’ll add a few cookie crumbs or graham cracker crumbs and pulse a few times to give some texture to the smoothie, but you don’t have to do this!
If using cookies or graham crackers as a topping, just crumble them at the end after everything is blended. Whipped cream is optional.

Flavor Tip
If you want it to taste more like a cookie milkshake, I recommend using almond extract in place of vanilla. It has a sweet undertone that makes it feel more cookie-milkshake like!
