Even though physically, I’m back in Virginia, I think my mind is still in the Caribbean and enjoying tropical fruits and drinks and lots of sunshine.
This mango kiwi smoothie is a testament to that and is one of our current favorite smoothie recipes.
We had plenty of pina coladas by the pool – they are the kids new favorite drinks (virgin, of course).
Back to this mango chia smoothie. I love adding chia seeds as a nutrient booster to nearly everything…avocado chia pudding, chia banana bread and more.

Chia seeds are good for kids in so many ways; they are such a secret weapon with so many benefits!
They add texture and nutrition, of course. And while many mango kiwi smoothies include spinach, I chose not to add it here.
I think spinach has a place in smoothies, but this tropical smoothie felt complete without spinach.
This banana mango and kiwi smoothie excels with light, tropical flavors and creamy greek yogurt.

Why Sarah Loves this Recipe
“As a mom and dietitian, any way that I can get fiber and protein into kiddos is a win! And this mango kiwi smoothie makes it so easy because it tastes so good!”
Why You’ll Love A Mango Kiwi Smoothie
- Family-friendly – We love making a huge batch of this kiwi mango smoothie as a family smoothie before weekend activities or for a snack. It’s so refreshing! Let the kids help you make it – a great way to involve them! This recipe is a natural progression once you’ve introduced kiwi puree to baby.
- High in fiber – Thanks to the mango, kiwi and chia seeds, this kiwi mango smoothie is bursting with fiber, which is why I love it for little ones! One smoothie has about 8 grams of fiber, nearly 1/3 of the recommended amount daily for an adult.
- Tropical – This tropical smoothie gives off the perfect tropical island vibes, and is easy to drink any time of day, especially in the hot summer months! Made with fresh fruit and/or frozen fruit, it comes together so easily and is high in Vitamin C!
- Easy to pair with granola or turn into a smoothie bowl– If you’re more of a smoothie bowl person, pour this mango kiwi smoothie into a bowl and you have a nice, thick and creamy smoothie bowl that you can top with your favorite toppings.
- Easy for meal prep – If you want to set yourself up for success for a busy week, make little smoothie packs with this kiwi mango smoothie to freeze! Then, when ready to blend, add the frozen ingredients to the blender with your liquid. Easy meal prep snack!
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make this tropcial mango smoothie with chia seeds.

- frozen mango – Fresh mango or frozen pineapple could work as a substitute.
- greek yogurt – You could also substitute a plant-based yogurt
- maple syrup – Or honey or agave.
- chia seeds – A staple ingredient from Thrive Market.
- milk of choice – I used cow’s milk but soy milk also works. Almond milk and coconut milk can also work but do not have protein.
- kiwi – make sure to wash and remove the skins
- Banana – I prefer frozen bananas because they make it creamier, but fresh ones will work too. You can add more ice cubes if you want more of a milkshake consistency.
Optional – You could also use flax seeds or hemp seeds, or even add your favorite protein powder in. For a more neutral flavor, add collagen powder (my personal favorite).
If you don’t want a milk-based smoothie, you could also use a juice, like orange juice or pineapple juice, or even coconut water.
If you like a juice-based smoothie, this cranberry juice smoothie is super refreshing and a tiny bit tart!

For some fun toppings, consider sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, coconut flakes or cocoa nibs. To make the color greener, add a handful of spinach!
How to Make a Mango Chia Smoothie
As you may think, making this mango chia seed smoothie couldn’t be easier!
Starting with the frozen fruit, mix all of the ingredients in a high speed blender. I like to taste to see if I even need the maple syrup first.
When I’m making for the kids, sometimes they like it a little sweeter, but it’s still plenty delicious without the maple syrup!
Blend for 30-60 seconds, until kiwi mango smoothie reaches desired consistency.

Tips for Success
Here are some tips that I recommend for the best outcome:
- Add the frozen fruit to the blender first. It makes everything blend easier and makes a nice creamy texture for your smoothie.
- If you want to freeze leftover smoothie into popsicles, follow the instructions in these strawberry kiwi popsicles!
- If you’re adding a protein powder, I’d recommend adding an extra Tbsp or two of liquid.
