In the summer months, we are making smoothies on repeat.

They’re quick and easy, but also cold and refreshing on a hot summer morning. From toddler smoothies to greek yogurt smoothies and everything in between, we are on board for smoothie season.

And this mango and orange smoothie with yogurt is my newest favorite. It tastes like an orange creamsicle smoothie, but you’re getting ample protein and nutrition in it.

Tip for Kids

When making with kiddos, leave out the protein powder and swap in vanilla greek yogurt as a replacement. I’ll usually add more greek yogurt when doing it this way. Serve in covered kids smoothie cups!

Why You’ll Love This Mango and Orange Smoothie

  • Hydrating – Mango and orange are both hydrating fruits, so blending them up with some more liquid makes this orange mango smoothie even more hydrating! Great for after a sweaty workout.
  • High in nutrients – Aside from the obvious protein, you’re also getting Vitamin C, fiber, Vitamin A, potassium, antioxidants and more. You can add more protein and other fruits, too, depending on your taste preference. This smoothie also has electrolytes, like sodium, potassium and magnesium.
  • Great for busy moms – During both of my pregnancies, I enjoyed my fair share of citrus fruits, especially blood oranges and frozen mango, so I made this orange creamsicle smoothie by blending the two. It was my favorite high-protein pregnancy smoothie!
  • Tastes like a creamsicle – With the blend of citrus fruits, the creamy dairy, and the slight sweetness, this orange and mango smoothie is almost too good to be true. You’ll crave it in the summer, but this healthy mango smoothie is too good not to enjoy year-round!
  • Great after a workoutWhey protein is important after a workout, and especially incorporating the amino acid, leucine. Leucine helps with muscle growth and decreasing muscle breakdown. Fruit and dairy offer some carbohydrates, which the body takes up as quick sugars to help improve recovery post-workout. Mangos and oranges are great running recovery foods, so this orange and mango smoothie is also a perfect healthy snack for athletes.

Ingredients

  • Oranges – I love Cara Cara oranges best, but blood oranges or naval oranges both work
  • frozen mango
  • plain greek yogurt – You could also use vanilla flavored for more of a vanilla creamsicle flavor
  • milk of choice
  • protein powder -I prefer vanilla for this recipe. Choose from any of these protein powders!
  • salt
  • vanilla extract
  • maple syrup (optional)
  • ice – optional. You can add more frozen fruit in place of ice, if you prefer, or leave it out entirely.

More optional additions I like for extra nutrition – chia seeds, hemp seeds or flax seeds! Sometimes, I’ll throw cocoa nibs on top, too.

Mango is just a very refreshing addition to a smoothie. I added it to this cantaloupe mango smoothie and was pleasantly surprised.

It also makes a good substitution for frozen peaches in this banana peach smoothie.

Smoothie Tip

The ice helps make your mango and orange smoothie thicker and creamier. So, make sure you have a high speed blender to blend it thoroughly if you like a creamy smoothie.

How to Make a Healthy Orange Creamsicle Smoothie

To make this mango orange smoothie taste most like a creamsicle shake, don’t skimp on the citrus! If you’ve never thrown citrus in a smoothie, this is your chance.

The cara cara oranges work magically when combined with frozen mango, a creamy greek yogurt and vanilla protein powder.

Make sure you put the frozen mango and ice at the bottom of the blender or food processor. I use a ninja blender.

Then, add the greek yogurt, oranges, protein powder, salt and vanilla extract.

Add the milk or liquid last so you can control the creaminess. If you like a thicker smoothie, add less liquid. Or, add more for a thinner smoothie.

Blend and enjoy immediately!

I love Orange and Mango so when I saw this combination in a smoothie I knew I had to try it – I was not disappointed!
