Salmon Rice Balls Without Cooking
I love serving salmon to babies and these salmon rice balls are one of the best ways to introduce salmon for baby led weaning!
They are soft and mushy for baby to gum without teeth, easy to hold, and incredibly nutritious – everything you want when offering first foods to babies.
I have so many other recipes for first foods and intro to baby led weaning in my baby led weaning ebook, too!

I love throwing canned salmon into patties (salmon and zucchini fritters are a hit), but these meatballs are something new and they instantly worked perfectly and tasted amazing.
The kids all tried them, which is a win! I served mine with extra sesame seeds and soy sauce, though they weren’t quite ready for that.
You could serve with their favorite dip, or even some mashed avocado topping.
Why You’ll Love These Simple Salmon Rice Balls
- Budget-friendly – Canned salmon rice balls use pantry staples and make a quick, budget-friendly family meal! A great family meal for toddlers, too!
- No stove or oven – It’s not often I can have a delicious and nutritious recipe that doesn’t require a stove OR an oven – this edamame corn salad is another no-cook one we love in summer.
- Great way to offer seafood – Rice is often a safe food for toddlers, so adding sweetpotato and canned salmon can be a good way to introduce seafood to babies and include healthy fats in easy toddler recipes.
- Soft, yet easy to hold – Rice and salmon balls are perfectly soft and hold together well, thanks to the mushy rice and sweetpotatoes. Let your baby explore the flavor!

Only 4 Main Ingredients
The best part about these salmon rice balls is how easy they are!

This salmon ball recipe does use cooked rice, so it can be a great way to use up leftover white rice. You can even use microwaved rice.
If you did want to add more flavors to these rice balls with salmon, you certainly could add more spices and herbs, like paprika, sesame seeds, parsley or cilantro.
A Note When Serving to Babies
When making these salmon and rice balls for babies, I would recommend rinsing the canned salmon before mixing, just to get any extra sodium or residue off!
Here’s How to Make Salmon Rice Balls
Aside from microwaving your sweetpotato, there’s no cooking involved! Just pull out that leftover rice and mix everything together.

Forming Consistent Meatballs
I prefer to use a cookie scooper to get all the meatballs to be the same size!
These salmon meatballs are great on their own, with a salad, or even with rice or a stir fry.
If you want them a little crispier for older kids and adults, just throw them under the broiler for a few minutes!
