I’m in the phase of life where I try to simplify everything.
As a dietitian, of course I want my food to taste good! And as a mom to three young kiddos, I want all of us to eat well.
But, I don’t want it to take too long. Anything over 20-25 minutes is off-putting in this phase of life.
Make it good and make it quick – which is just what these turkey burger bowls are.
With ground turkey, olives, feta cheese, and red onions, they are the best healthy Mediterranean turkey bowls.

Why Sarah Loves this Recipe As a Mom and Dietitian
“These turkey burger bowls have everything in just one bowl – protein, veggies, healthy fats, and your choice of carbohydrates. Plus, they’re ready in 20 minutes. What a bonus for an easy family meal.”
Why You’ll Love Turkey Burger Bowls
- Ready in 15-20 minutes – I really mean it. You can assemble the bowls while the ground turkey is cooking. It’s so simple! Better yet, add a minute cooking rice, or leftover diced potatoes for more depth and flavor. A fun 15-minute alternative to our popular sweet potato turkey burgers.
- Family friendly – This is great for feeding a family because it can be displayed in so many ways. Keep everything deconstructed in these ground turkey bowls, or mix it up as a big salad! For kids, I prefer to keep it separate since they are particular about what foods touch!
- Easy to personalize – Don’t like romaine? Sub it with spinach or cabbage. No ground turkey? Use ground beef, ground chicken or tempeh! No cucumbers? Leave them out or add carrots! When making these healthy ground turkey bowls, having the option to swap in different ingredients was very important to me – they are very personalizable!
- Easy to double or save for leftovers – I often like to just double the amount of meat I cook to save for another meal or spin on these turkey burger bowls. It’s easy to remake into a stir fry, turkey taco quinoa skillet or even add some veggies and ground meat into a pasta recipe. Cook smarter, not harder.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make this ground turkey bowls recipe.

- ground turkey – You could also use ground chicken or ground beef, but I prefer the flavor combo of ground turkey + feta cheese.
- romaine lettuce – I love the crunchiness of romaine lettuce, plus you can also serve them as lettuce wraps! However, you could also opt for spinach, arugula or another choice of greens.
- olives – I used kalamata because I love the saltiness!
- feta cheese – Goat cheese is another fun option.
- cucumbers – I use nice and crisp English cucumbers!
- red onions – You can omit these if you don’t enjoy the spice they give, or use white onions.
- rice, optional – I like to pair these with rice, but other options include diced potatoes, sweetpotatoes, or even a toasted bun or mini bun on the side.
- seasonings – I used paprika, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt and pepper to season the ground turkey.
- sauce – You can always make your own sauce or dressing, but since this is a quick recipe, I rely on a simple storebought tzatziki dressing (Costco has a good one!) or the Primal Kitchen special sauce.
How to Make Ground Turkey Bowls
First, you’ll start by cooking your ground turkey (or meat of choosing). I love ground turkey because it’s the best flavor with feta for these Mediterranean turkey bowls.
Heat a medium skillet over medium-high heat and add your ground turkey and spices.

Cook your meat for 4-7 minutes, or until cooked through.
While the ground turkey is cooking, cut your vegetables and make your sauce if you have a special sauce you enjoy. I usually use a Primal Kitchen sauce!

When the meat is done cooking, assemble your turkey burger bowls, adding as much dressing/toppings as you like.ย

Tips for Success
Here are some tips that I recommend for the best greek turkey bowls.
- Make sure your ground turkey is thawed ahead of time! Otherwise, these Mediterranean turkey bowls will take a bit longer.
- Have your spices mixed together in a small bowl, and season the meat as it cooks.
- When serving to small kids, I’ve found that leaving these turkey burger bowls deconstructed is the best route of action. They generally don’t like things mixed together, so just serve on a kid-friendly plate and separate the ingredients!
- To keep things quick, I generally rely on a Primal Kitchen sauce (the Special sauce mixes well with everything, but the avocado mayo is great too) or a hummus or tzatziki.
- Leftovers – If you need recipes using turkey burgers or leftover ground meet, this is a great way to re-purpose it in a new way!
- Leftovers are good for up to 4 days when stored in an airtight container in the fridge!
