Before I get into some funky/typical runner habits, I had to share this picture. Look at this strawberry I came across yesterday!? Is this a sign of good luck? On a related note, did you guys hear that Whole Foods will start selling “ugly” fruit? I strongly support this notion to decrease food waste!
I haven’t written about running in a while (except discussing my training here and there), and I thought this would be a fun way to relate with the other runners in the blog world. Running is not only my outlet, but a huge part of my life and who I am. It keeps me sane, balanced and present with each lifestyle change that life throws at me.
We all have our own habits, but here are some blanket ones that signify you might be a runner..
You have running outfits and pairs of running shoes in your car, just in case…
You were supposed to take an off day but the weather is too beautiful to not run…just a few miles
When you walk instead of run, your body is initially in shock
Weekend plans revolve around when you can fit your long run in
You foam roll like it’s your job
Dinner table talk with your spouse or significant other revolves around that day’s runs/training
You have extremely specific habits before and/or after a run
You’re used to being stinky, sweaty and live in workout clothes and you’re okay with it
Your running schedule revolves around when you eat (obviously)
You have trouble justifying spending over $100 on an outfit, but you’ll drop $120 on running shoes, no problem
The majority of your laundry is running gear
You could chat about running shoes for hours
Speaking of, you have several pairs of old running shoes just lying around that you’re figuring out what to do with
When you see new areas or roads, you think about running on them
Your running watch is one of your most prized possessions
Stressful, happy, good or bad days can all start with or end with a run
You’re always hungry
You get jealous if you see someone out running and you haven’t gotten your run in today
You get excited when you find a new trail
You talk in terms of PR’s, write down paces and splits like a mad person, and can’t contain your excitement when you set a new PR. WHY DOESN’T ANYONE CARE?
When you meet another runner, part of you gets giddy on the inside. Let’s talk about running!
Your hard earned money goes to races, running attire and pre and post workout food
If you’re going out, you don’t wear heels or anything that could make your feet hurt. Dancing in sneakers it is!
What other “You might be a runner if…” tidbits do you have?

Support Bucket List TummyThis list is spot-on! I can totally identify with always being hungry, feeling jealous when I see a person running when I can’t, and daydreaming of running on the roads/trails I drive by.
I’ve been sidelined from running, but can completely relate to all of these!
I soooooo get all of these, but from a listing perspective. I can’t wait til I can run more again. Ankle is almost there!
I didn’t hear that about Whole Foods, but that’s awesome! We talk a lot about it CA with all the citrus that ends up wasted.
It’s such a shame to think about all the food waste, but glad that more initiatives are being brought to attention!
All the yaaaaaassssss! Although I am not running like I used to…I can relate to these 100% –says the girl who ALWAYS has a spare workout outfit on hand or already on her body!
My car is filled with extra workout clothes, so I am always prepared!
That’s a lot of shoes. I’m sitting here nodding my head as I read your list. All so true. Especially about the trails.
My husband is a shoe lover, so I can’t claim them all! I love new trails.
You might be a runner if your Fitbit registers 10,000 steps by 6 am (and 20,000 by 7!). Or I’d you have conversations about bodily functions with strangers (as long as they’re runners!). I sat here nodding my head as I read. Fun post! Thanks for joining the Running Coaches Corner.
These are both so true! Bodily function chats are quite common
Lol, these are great! I relate a lot to the being okay with always being sweaty, dropping lots of money on running shoes, and always being hungry! You also might be a runner if you feel like you are constantly washing sports bras-story of my life! Have a great weekend Sarah!
You’re totally right about the sports bras!
I love all of these! Especially getting excited when finding new streets or neighborhoods to run in. Another one I’d add- planning a vacation and researching local races there to run. Or making a vacation out of a destination race:)
Totally. That’s a good one! I love planning trips around new races π
Yes, yes, YES! Hahaha, I love this. (I should foam roll more though…!).
I think we all should! π
Love this! I can definitely relate to all of these! Whenever i am driving and see someone running I get jealous, and Im always on the lookout for new places to run!
New places to run are the best!
Not a runner….but enjoyed this post. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That is an impressive array of shoes… I definitely relate to seeing a new road and getting really excited about running down it. The possibilities are endless. Right now, I’m trying to think of a place I could run with two crazy huskies.
Oh wow, that sounds like a crazy workout! New roads are definitely endless opportunities π
Haha YES! Dancing in tennis shoes. I call Converse my “going out sneakers” for just that reason. My friends just laugh at me. I can relate to all of these. Except the foam rolling. I know I SHOULD do this…it just doesn’t happen often.
I make myself do it because I know my body will thank me! Cheers to converses π
yes yes and yes!
Thank you for joining the link up!
And yes. to all. Whether I am running or not!
Thanks for creating a fun running link up!
I LOVE THIS!!!! All so true!!
Added tidbit, when you pack for vacation, you pack your run gear first!
You know it! Most important attire π
I love this post!!! Thanks for linking up, Sarah! (Also, that neighborhood looks so like Cleveland. Do you live here, too?!)
I’m in Charlotte. This is one of my favorite neighborhood runs here!
You’re an inspiration! I went running yesterday b/c I couldn’t justify going to the gym on such a beautiful day. It wasn’t easy, but I loved being outdoors and soaking up the sun!
I can’t resist the outdoors when the weather is like this!
Love this! I wouldn’t say I am a runner, but run here and there. I am also really drawn to running blogs..I just look up to y’all so much. Have a great one!
You can run here and there and call yourself a runner! π
Love this!
You might be a runner if most of your drawers have running gear.
You might be a runner if you plan your year around races. π
So true! All of my drawers have my running stuff everywhere.
